S'mores Rice Krispie Treats

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • No baking required
  • Classic s’mores flavor without a campfire
  • Ready in about 30 minutes
  • Kid-friendly recipe
  • Perfect for summer parties
  • Great make-ahead dessert
  • Easy to customize

Ingredients

To make these S’mores Rice Krispie Treats, you’ll need:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 2 cups Golden Grahams cereal
  • ¾ cup marshmallow bits
  • ⅔ cup milk chocolate chips

Equipment You’ll Need

  • Large saucepan
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Silicone spatula
  • 9×9-inch baking pan
  • Butter or nonstick cooking spray

How to Make S’mores Rice Krispie Treats

Step 1: Prepare the Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine:

  • Rice Krispies cereal
  • Golden Grahams cereal
  • Marshmallow bits
  • Milk chocolate chips

Gently stir everything together until evenly mixed.

Set aside.

Step 2: Melt the Butter

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

Once melted, reduce the heat to low.

Step 3: Melt the Marshmallows

Add the mini marshmallows to the melted butter.

Stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth.

Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 4: Combine Everything

Pour the warm marshmallow mixture over the cereal mixture.

Using a silicone spatula, gently fold everything together until all of the cereal is evenly coated.

Work quickly before the marshmallow mixture begins to set.

Step 5: Press Into the Pan

Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking pan with butter or nonstick spray.

Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan.

Gently press it into an even layer.

Avoid packing it too tightly, which can make the treats dense instead of soft and chewy.

Step 6: Cool

Allow the treats to cool for about 20 minutes.

Slice into squares and serve.

Tips for the Best S’mores Rice Krispie Treats

  • Use fresh marshmallows for the softest texture.
  • Stir gently so the cereal stays crisp.
  • Don’t overheat the marshmallows.
  • Lightly butter your spatula to keep the mixture from sticking.
  • Don’t firmly pack the mixture into the pan.

Fun Variations

Customize your treats with:

  • Mini Hershey’s chocolate pieces
  • White chocolate chips
  • Peanut butter chips
  • Dark chocolate chips
  • Mini M&M’s
  • Chocolate drizzle
  • Crushed graham crackers on top
  • Toasted mini marshmallows

Serving Suggestions

These S’mores Rice Krispie Treats are perfect for:

  • Summer BBQs
  • Backyard bonfires
  • Camping trips
  • Birthday parties
  • School treats
  • Potlucks
  • Family movie nights
  • Holiday dessert trays

Serve them with:

  • Cold milk
  • Hot chocolate
  • Coffee
  • Vanilla ice cream

Storage

Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.

Place parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking.

For the freshest texture, avoid refrigerating them, as it can make the marshmallows firm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use regular graham crackers instead of Golden Grahams?

Yes! Crushed graham crackers work well, although Golden Grahams provide extra crunch and distribute more evenly throughout the bars.

Can I make these ahead of time?

Absolutely. They’re a great make-ahead dessert and stay fresh for several days when stored properly.

Why are my Rice Krispie treats hard?

Overheating the marshmallows or pressing the mixture too firmly into the pan can make the treats dense and hard.

Can I freeze them?

Yes. Wrap each bar individually and freeze for up to 2 months. Let thaw at room temperature before serving.

These S’mores Rice Krispie Treats are an easy way to enjoy all the flavors of a classic campfire dessert without ever lighting a fire. Packed with gooey marshmallows, crunchy cereals, chocolate chips, and marshmallow bits, they’re the perfect combination of sweet, chewy, and crispy. Whether you’re making them for a summer gathering, packing them for a camping trip, or simply satisfying a s’mores craving, this easy no-bake recipe is guaranteed to become a family favorite.

I served these at my daughter’s Great Wolf Lodge birthday party. They were a total hit! Along with our other campfire-themed treats.
