Snowman Cake Pops Recipe | Easy Christmas Cake Pops

Snowman Cake Pops

Looking for a festive holiday treat that’s guaranteed to impress? These Snowman Cake Pops are as adorable as they are delicious! Made with crumbled cake, creamy frosting, and a sweet white chocolate coating, they’re decorated to look like cheerful little snowmen that are perfect for Christmas parties, cookie exchanges, classroom celebrations, and homemade gifts.

One of the best things about cake pops is how customizable they are. You can use your favorite cake flavor, frosting, and decorations to create a dessert that’s uniquely yours. For these snowmen, I chose a rich hot cocoa cake paired with peppermint frosting because it captures all the cozy flavors of winter. However, vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, or even funfetti all work wonderfully.

Whether you’re making these with kids or creating an edible centerpiece for your holiday dessert table, these Snowman Cake Pops are sure to become a new Christmas tradition.

Why You’ll Love These Snowman Cake Pops

  • Easy to customize with your favorite cake flavors
  • Perfect for Christmas parties and cookie exchanges
  • Fun holiday baking activity for kids
  • Great make-ahead dessert
  • Beautiful homemade Christmas gift idea
  • Soft, moist cake covered in creamy white chocolate

Ingredients

To make these festive Snowman Cake Pops, you’ll need:

Cake Pops

  • 1 box cake mix, plus ingredients listed on the box
  • ½ tub frosting
  • 1 bag white melting chocolate wafers
  • 1 teaspoon Crisco
  • ¼ bag black melting chocolate wafers
  • ⅛ bag orange melting chocolate wafers
  • Cake pop sticks
  • Cake pop wrappers

Helpful Equipment

These tools aren’t required, but they’ll make decorating much easier.

  • Wilton Chocolate Melting Pot (helps maintain a consistent dipping temperature)
  • Cake Pop Stand
  • Small Cookie Scoop
  • Parchment Paper

How to Make Snowman Cake Pops

Step 1: Bake the Cake

Prepare the cake according to the package directions.

A 9×13-inch cake works perfectly.

Allow the cake to cool completely before making the cake pops. Many people find it easiest to bake the cake the day before.

Step 2: Crumble the Cake

Remove any crispy edges from the cake.

Place the remaining cake into a large bowl and crumble it into fine crumbs until no large pieces remain.

Step 3: Add the Frosting

Add approximately half a tub of frosting.

Mix until the crumbs are evenly coated and resemble a soft dough.

The mixture should easily hold together when rolled into a ball. If it’s too dry, simply add a little more frosting.

Step 4: Roll the Cake Balls

Using a small cookie scoop or tablespoon, roll the mixture into evenly sized balls.

Place them on a tray or plate and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.

Chilling helps prevent the cake pops from falling apart while dipping.

Step 5: Melt the White Chocolate

Melt the white candy melts with 1 teaspoon Crisco using either:

  • a Wilton melting pot
  • a microwave
  • a double boiler

Stir until completely smooth.

The Crisco helps thin the chocolate for easier dipping and a smoother finish.

Step 6: Insert the Cake Pop Sticks

Dip the end of each cake pop stick into the melted chocolate.

Insert it about two-thirds of the way into each cake ball.

Return the cake pops to the refrigerator for 5–10 minutes so the chocolate hardens and secures the stick.

Step 7: Coat the Cake Pops

Dip each cake pop into the melted white chocolate until completely covered.

Gently tap the stick against the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate.

Place the coated cake pops upright in a cake pop stand to dry.

Tip: If the chocolate feels too thick, stir in a little more Crisco until it reaches a smooth dipping consistency.

Step 8: Decorate the Snowmen

Once the white coating has completely hardened, it’s time to bring your snowmen to life.

Eyes & Mouth

Melt the black candy melts in a microwave-safe bag using 30-second intervals.

Massage the bag between heating intervals until smooth.

Snip a tiny corner and pipe:

  • Two eyes
  • Four small dots for the smile

Carrot Nose

Melt the orange candy melts the same way.

Pipe a small carrot-shaped nose by squeezing slightly before pulling away to create a pointed tip.

Allow the decorations to harden completely.

Step 9: Package

Place each finished cake pop into a cake pop wrapper.

Secure with a ribbon or twist tie for an adorable homemade holiday gift.

Tips for Perfect Cake Pops

  • Bake the cake a day ahead to save time.
  • Don’t skip chilling the cake balls.
  • Thin candy melts with Crisco if needed.
  • Tap gently after dipping to remove excess coating.
  • Let each layer harden before decorating.
  • Work with small batches to keep the cake balls cold.

Flavor Variations

These Snowman Cake Pops are easy to customize!

Try using:

  • Vanilla cake + Vanilla frosting
  • Chocolate cake + Chocolate frosting
  • Red Velvet + Cream Cheese Frosting
  • Spice Cake + Cream Cheese Frosting
  • Funfetti Cake + Vanilla Frosting
  • Devil’s Food Cake + Peppermint Frosting

Storage

Store Snowman Cake Pops in a cool, dry place for up to 1 week.

For longer storage, refrigerate them in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

They can also be frozen for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my cake pops falling off the stick?

Usually this happens because the cake balls are too warm or the chocolate coating is too thick. Chilling the cake balls and dipping the stick in melted chocolate before inserting it helps secure the cake pop.

Can I use homemade cake?

Absolutely! Homemade cake works just as well as boxed cake mix.

What candy melts work best?

Wilton Candy Melts and Ghirardelli Melting Wafers both produce smooth, beautiful coatings.

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes! Snowman Cake Pops are a fantastic make-ahead Christmas dessert and are perfect for holiday entertaining.

These Snowman Cake Pops are the perfect combination of festive, fun, and delicious. Their adorable snowman faces make them an instant hit with kids and adults alike, while the moist cake center and creamy chocolate coating make every bite irresistible. Whether you’re adding them to your holiday dessert table, packaging them as homemade gifts, or making memories with the kids in the kitchen, these Christmas cake pops are sure to become a holiday favorite you’ll look forward to making year after year.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Cake Mix with everything needed to make the cake
  • 1/2 tub Frosting
  • 1 bag White Melting Chocolate Wafers
  • 1 tsp Crisco
  • 1/4 bag Black Melting Chocolate Wafers
  • 1/8 bag Orange Melting Chocolate Wafers
  • Cake Pop Sticks
  • Cake Pop Wrappers

Instructions

  • The first thing you are going to do is make the cake. I usually bake this the day before I want to make cake pops. Follow the directions on the back of the cake mix box. I usually make a large 13x9 cake.
If you are making the cake the same day you want to make your cake pops you will need to allow for a few hours in between the cake being baked and starting the cake pops. The cake needs to be completely cooled before you start the cake pop process.
Once you've baked your cake and it's cooled to room temperature it's time to start making cake pops!
Take your cooled cake and crumbled it in a large bowl. Remove any hard edges from the bowl. You want to have the whole cake crumbled into little grain size pieces.
Next, mix in 1/2 tub of your preferred frosting flavor.  You will mix this with the cake crumble until you have a moist batter.  You should be able to roll a little ball and smush it without it crumbling apart. If it does crumble add a little more frosting.
Using a small cookie scoop or teaspoon, scoop the cake mixture out of the bowl and form small balls.
Place the formed balls on a large plate or tray, then place them in the fridge for about 30 minutes. This will help them hold their shape when you dip them in the chocolate.
You can melt the chocolate in a double boiler or use the Wilton melting pot. Place the white chocolate and a teaspoon of Crisco into your melting pot. Let it melt, stirring occasionally until smooth. The Crisco is being used to help thin the chocolate so it is easier to dip the cake ball. You can use the thinning wafers or you can use Crisco. I use Crisco because it's cheaper and I already have it on hand.
Once the chocolate is melted it's time to add the sticks to your cake balls.
Dip a cake pop stick in the melted chocolate and then place it in the center of the cake ball. Press the stick into the cake ball until it's about 2/3 of the way into the center of the cake pop. Place them back in the fridge for about 5-10 minutes for the chocolate to set up.
Now it's time to make a snowman! Take a cake pop by the stick and dip the cake ball into the melted white chocolate. Give a little tap to remove any excess chocolate then place in the cake pop stand to set up.
If your cake ball has a difficult time moving through the chocolate then it's either not warm enough or you need more Crisco to thin out the chocolate a little more.
Once the white chocolate has set up it's time to add the eyes and nose to your snowman.
Place the black melting wafers into a sandwich zip lock baggie and microwave in 30-second intervals. Take the bag out and massage it in between each 30-second interval until the chocolate is melted.  Once the chocolate is melted, snip of the corner, just a little snip. Then pipe on 2 dots for the eyes and 4 dots for the mouth.
Repeat the above with the orange chocolate wafers. To make the nose, hold the baggie and squeeze for a few seconds in one spot then pull it out so it's wider at the base and then gets smaller like a carrot.
Let the black and orange chocolate harden, then place in the wrapper and use a twist tie or ribbon to tie shut.
These were a huge hit with the kids. And they last for a week if kept in a cool and dry place.
