We are trying to squeak out the last few days of warm summer weather here in Minnesota. One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to make sun tea. I remember growing up and making batches of sun tea with the family. Fill up a container, add tea, set it in the sun for the day. Some of the best tea ever! Today, I am going to teach Peyton how to make strawberry lemon sun tea.
To make a batch of strawberry lemon sun tea you will need the following –
Water
1/4 C Sugar or Honey
6 Regular Tea Bags
1 Lemon, sliced
8-10 Strawberries, sliced with tops removed
Take your favorite beverage dispenser and fill it with water. You can find them at your local retailer or amazon has a great selection.
Add in your sweetener and stir until dissolved.
Be sure to wash your strawberries and lemon.
Slice the lemon and toss it in the water.
Remove the tops and slice the strawberries in half and toss them in the water.
Add the tea bags. I like to have the strings dangle over the top of the container so it’s easier to remove them when I’m done.
Secure the top. Remember there is sugar/honey and fruit in here so it can attract wasps and bees. Be sure the top is secure.
Place in direct sunlight and let it brew for a few hours.
Depending on where you live and what time of year will make a big impact on brew time. In June, I can brew tea in a few hours but now that we are in September it’s an all-day process. The sun is much weaker now. You can eyeball how long it should brew by looking at how dark the tea is.
Remove from the sun. Open the top and remove the teabags. Give it a quick stir. Take a little taste. If you think it needs sugar you can add it to the whole container or do it a glass at a time. I prefer to do this a glass at a time because how sweet you like your tea is a personal preference.
