Sweet Alabama Pecan Bread

Sweet Alabama pecan bread is Southern baking at its finest—simple, rich, and packed with down-home flavor. This beloved classic isn’t actually a bread in the traditional sense, but more of a moist, dense pecan-studded cake that slices like a dream. With its buttery texture, caramelized edges, and sweet nutty crunch in every bite, it’s perfect for holiday gatherings, potlucks, or just a cozy treat with your morning coffee. One bite and you’ll see why this old-fashioned favorite has stood the test of time in Southern kitchens.

To make Sweet Alabama Pecan Bread, you will need the following –

2 C Chopped Pecans, toasted
1 1/2 C Self-Rising Flour
1 C Brown Sugar, packed
1 C Sugar
1 C Vegetable Oil
4 Eggs
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1/4 tsp Salt

Some equipment you will need –

Baking Sheet
Baking Dish
Mixing Bowls
Measuring Cups and Spoons
Parchment Paper

First, you will want to toast your pecans. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Once the oven is preheated, spread your pecans in a single layer on some parchment paper on a baking sheet. Bake for 4 minutes.  You can chop the pecans before or after they are toasted.

Keep the oven preheated to 350°F and start to prepare your bread mixture.

In a bowl, combine the brown sugar, sugar, vegetable oil, and eggs until they’re smooth.

Next, stir in the vanilla extract.

Add in the self-rising flour and salt. Mix until combined.

Fold in the toasted pecans.

Pour into a greased baking dish and spread it into an even layer.

Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes. It needs to be golden brown. Use a toothpick to see if it’s done. Insert the toothpick into the center of the bread, if it comes out clean it’s done. If not, let it bake another minute and recheck.

Once done baking, remove from the oven and let cool.

Once cooled, slice into bars and enjoy!

If you want to serve it as more of a dessert, warm it up, drizzle caramel sauce over it, and serve with a scoop of ice cream!

Sweet Alabama pecan bread is the kind of treat that brings people together—comforting, nostalgic, and made to be shared. With its rich flavor, tender crumb, and crunchy pecans throughout, it’s a recipe that feels like home with every bite. Whether you’re serving it warm from the oven or gifting a loaf to someone special, this Southern classic is sure to leave a lasting impression. So pour a cup of coffee, slice a generous piece, and savor the simple joy of truly good baking.
