One of my favorite childhood memories is spending time in the kitchen baking with my mom. She used to bake some of the coolest cakes and bars. Now that I have my own daughter I like to spend time in the kitchen making special treats for her. Especially around the holidays, I like to make themed treats. I think it makes it more fun and feels like you’re celebrating a little more. Today, we are making Sweetheart Bars. They are an absolute hit with the kids. Plus they are fairly simple to make.
To make your own Sweetheart Bars you’ll need the following –
Box yellow cake mix
1 Box instant vanilla pudding
1/4 Cup water
3/4 Cup vegetable oil
2 Eggs
1 Cup chocolate chips.
1 Cup M&M’s
I know there is a cake mix in this recipe but you are not going to follow the directions on the cake box. So take the mix out of that box and toss the box. Don’t look at the back.
This is a fairly quick recipe so I suggest you start preheating the oven when you start. Preheat your oven to 350F.
The next step is to combine the cake mix, pudding, water, vegetable oil & eggs in large bowl. You’ll want to mix this really well. Either by hand or using a mixer.
Once the batter is completely mixed, add your chocolate and M&Ms by folding them into the batter. Do not use a mixer for this or you will break up the candy pieces.
When the candies have been evenly distributed throughout the batter it’s time to start baking!
Pour the batter (it’s going to be thick) into a greased pan or use a silicone baking pan as I did. Silicone works wonders when it comes time to remove the bars from the baking pan so if you have a silicone pan available I highly suggest using it.
