Disney’s The BFG opened nationwide on Friday. Peyton and I had a chance to see it and we are going to share our thoughts with you. This was a first for Peyton. Typically, we see animated movies or movies based on princesses. The BFG is based off a book by Roald Dahl and adapted to the big screen by Disney with the help of Steven Speilberg. It’s an imaginative story about a little girl, Sophie, who becomes friends with a giant, BFG. Through their friendship, Sophie learns all about Giant country. She learns about the wonder and danger Giant country holds.
I was a little apprehensive of taking Peyton to see The BFG. I thought the giants may be a tad too much for her. But she loved it. Disney and Speilberg did a fantastic job bringing the story to life on the big screen. Yes, there were some intense parts but Peyton survived them.
Peyton’s favorite part of the whole movie was when the Queen’s Corgies drank the Frobscottle. Frobscottle is a drink that can only be found in Giant country, it’s a drink that fizzes down, not up like our drinks. And because it fizzes down it doesn’t make you belch, it makes you do something else. When BFG and Sophie went to see the Queen, BFG brought a bottle to share as a gesture of kindness. When everyone drinks the Frobscottle, they have the typical reaction. I think every little kid is going to love this scene. It’s a funny, light-hearted scene.
The BFG is a movie the whole family can enjoy, from Great Grandma down to the kindergartner. On that note, I must admit if you have a little 4 years old or younger this may be a movie you let them pass on. There is a great deal of talking which can cause little ones to grow impatient and lose interest. Peyton is 6 and even she got a little antsy in the first half hour until she got into the story. But once she was hooked, she watched the whole movie and wanted more.
Currently, The BFG is playing in theaters nationwide. Check your local listings for times and locations.
