The Ultimate Drive-In Checklist

One of my favorite memories growing up was going to the drive-in. There was nothing more fun than sitting in the back of a pickup truck with the whole family, snuggled in blankets and watching a movie on the big screen.  Now, I get to take my daughter to the drive-in and I’m going to share some of my tips and tricks on how we make it the perfect evening in our Dodge Journey.

Dodge Journey Drive In NightFirst, you need to make sure your vehicle is clean. If you’re a parent you know what I’m talking about. Take all the “things” that accumulate in the car and take it inside the house. Next, vacuum it out! There is probably sand, crumbs and whatnot throughout the vehicle that you don’t want to be laying on. And if you have a child that enjoys beverages in the car be sure to wipe down all the hard surfaces to remove any sticky residue.

Once that car is clean, the next thing to do is to decide where you want to sit and watch the movie. For us, we like sitting in the cargo area. That means we turn our cargo area into one huge bed that we can relax in, snuggle up and watch all three movies.

Be sure to try it out at home before you head to the drive-in. I discovered our cargo area was really hard and not very comfortable the first time we did this. Now, I bring in a padded mattress pad, extra blankets and tons of pillows.

Dodge Journey Drive In NightOnce you have the inside nice and comfortable for the movie, now it’s time to gather the treats! Freeze a couple bottles of water, once frozen, place inside a small cooler with your other beverages of choices.  Also, grab some munchies. Like popcorn? Bring some! Chocolate? Grab it! Some drive-ins do have snack bars but whatever you bring from home is probably going to be better than what they have.

Now the vehicle is comfortable, the snacks are packed the last thing you need are shoes! Make sure everyone wears slip-on shoes. Seriously, you will thank me later for this. At some point, you will have to take a bathroom break, but you don’t want to wear shoes while you are snuggled up watching movies so make sure you have slip on shoes that are easy to put on.

That is the way to have a great time at the drive-in. Prep your car, pack it up and head out!
