Tips and Tricks to Get Those Veggies In

We all have heard that to be successful on weight loss you need to get your vegetables in. But that can be hard! Before starting my weight loss journey I thought I did a pretty good job at getting in enough vegetables but once I started my food journal I realized I was really good at eating fruits and not so much vegetables. Now I needed to switch my mindset and habits so I could get my 4 servings of vegetables in a day.  Today I’m going to share a few tips and tricks on how I get my vegetables in throughout the day and stay on track.

Cooking Green Chili Turkey Burgers on the GrillThroughout my journey, I have learned to experiment with my vegetables. I have tried cooking them different ways or adding them to dishes that I normally would not have vegetables.

Remember that Green Chili Turkey Burger recipe I shared a few weeks ago? That’s a great way to get some vegetables in! The onions in the burger are a vegetable. And that salsa recipe I shared goes great with those burgers. Right there you can easily get in one or two servings of vegetables.

Fresh Salsa without the extrasThe salsa recipe I shared also pairs well with Triscuits as a snack. I like to get the ranch Triscuits and top them with the salsa for my afternoon snack. It satisfies my need for crunch and I get to a serving or two of vegetables!

I have also learned that really like roasted vegetables over any other cooking method. For some reason, they just taste better to me. Plus, I know roasting is one of the cooking methods that loses the least amount of nutrients. You can dry roast, which is healthiest or use a sprinkle of olive oil. I also season with Mrs. Dash because it adds flavors but not tons of sodium. You can also season with fresh herbs too.

Chunky Salsa and Wheat ThinsWhen you first start out, getting those vegetables in are going to feel nearly impossible. But if you plan out your day, soon you’ll find it’s easy to get them in!
