Easy Turkey & Cheese Roll-Ups Lunch for Kids

Easy Turkey and Cheese Roll-Ups Lunch for Kids

Looking for a fun twist on the classic turkey sandwich? These turkey and cheese roll-ups are a simple way to turn everyday lunch ingredients into something kids can’t wait to eat. They look a little like sushi rolls, but they’re made with flattened sandwich bread, turkey, and cheese for a fun, bite-sized lunch that’s perfect for school.

The best part? They only take about 10 minutes to prepare and are easy to customize with your child’s favorite fillings.

Turkey & Cheese Roll-Ups

Instead of making a traditional sandwich, I flattened slices of sandwich bread with a rolling pin before layering on thin slices of turkey and Colby Jack cheese.

After rolling the bread tightly, I sliced each roll into bite-sized pieces that fit perfectly into the bento box.

For the best results:

  • Use soft sandwich bread.
  • Don’t overfill the rolls.
  • Roll tightly.
  • Slice with a sharp serrated knife.
  • Place the roll-ups directly into the lunchbox so they hold their shape.

These little sandwich pinwheels are fun to eat and easy for younger kids to pick up.

Fresh Strawberries

Fresh strawberries make the perfect sweet side for this savory lunch.

We had recently gone strawberry picking, so I packed sliced strawberries that had been lightly sweetened.

Other fruits that work well include:

  • Blueberries
  • Grapes
  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries
  • Mandarin oranges

Creamy Pudding

A chocolate and vanilla swirl pudding cup makes an easy dessert that fits perfectly into a bento box.

Store-bought pudding cups are one of my favorite lunch shortcuts. Simply scoop the pudding into the compartment for a homemade look without the extra work.

Other dessert ideas include:

  • Vanilla pudding
  • Chocolate pudding
  • Yogurt
  • Applesauce
  • Fruit cups

Crunchy Snacks

Every lunch needs a little crunch.

Today’s lunch includes:

  • Goldfish crackers
  • Trail mix

The combination adds texture while providing protein and healthy fats to help keep kids full throughout the afternoon.

You could also swap in:

  • Pretzels
  • Veggie straws
  • Cheese crackers
  • Popcorn
  • Roasted chickpeas

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you keep sandwich roll-ups from unrolling?

Roll the bread tightly, avoid overfilling, and place the slices directly into the lunchbox after cutting. This helps them hold their shape until lunchtime.

Can you make turkey roll-ups the night before?

Yes! Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator overnight and pack them into the lunchbox in the morning.

What bread works best for sandwich roll-ups?

Soft white or whole wheat sandwich bread works best because it rolls easily without cracking.

Are sandwich roll-ups good for picky eaters?

Absolutely! Their fun, bite-sized shape often makes familiar ingredients more appealing to kids.
