Unforgettable

Are you looking for a thriller to see this weekend? I saw Unforgettable and loved it. Yes, the storyline has been done before. But who cares? These actors did a great job giving the story life with a twist all their own.  The way I judge a movie is – Did I lose myself in it? Did I feel invested in the characters? Did I want to scream at the screen and give advice? Yes, Yes and Yes. If I can answer yes to those questions then I feel it is a good movie and something I would suggest my friends and family go see.

UnforgettableNow the storyline is about a single dad who has found a new love. They just got engaged and moved in together. But, they haven’t told his ex-wife yet. She seems to have a little obsession with him and doesn’t take change very well. When in reality she has a serious mental illness. Throughout the movie, we see how far Tessa (the ex-wife played by Katherine Heigl) is willing to go. She goes so far as digging up Julia’s (the fiance played by Rosario Dawson) ex-boyfriend that had physically abused her and dragging him into the drama. Tessa is a mastermind at manipulating people. And she’s not afraid of crossing the line. All the while, David (the man everyone wants, played by Geoff Stults) seems to be unaware of just how far off the reservation Tessa is. He has really underestimated the length Tessa would go to.

And when David finally sees the light and sees that all the issues that have been going on are all because of Tessa’s warped and deranged behavior Tessa snaps. She tried to kill the one person she is doing this all for! I won’t tell you how it ends, you’ll have to go see the movie to find out. But I will warn you, this is rated R and it earned that rating. I would not let my teenager see this movie because it deals with some heavy topics like mental illness and has a vivid sex scene.

Katherine Heigl did a great job playing the mentally disturbed ex-wife. She had me believing she needed to seek professional help. Rosario Dawson was fantastic at playing a woman that had survived an abusive relationship that nearly killed her, trying to move and live a normal life without fear. Both women were extremely believable in their roles. And the child, Lilly played by Isabella Kai Rice was spectacular.  Rice portrayed the part of a child trying to please a type A personality parent to a T.

If you are looking for a date movie or even a night out with the girls, consider Unforgettable.

Unforgettable is now playing at Theaters nationwide.
