Growing up, the annual trip to Valleyfair in Shakopee, Minnesota was a day we all looked forward to. Every year there is always something new at Valleyfair. We’d usually go once with family and once with school. I have many fond memories of those trips. Now, that I am a mom, I take Peyton to Valleyfair every year. And every year there is always something new to see and experience. Valleyfair does a great job at keeping the park fresh and fun for all members of the family.
This weekend, Peyton and I headed out to see what was all new at Valleyfair this year. There were a few new things we just had to check out.
New Ride: Delirious
First, there’s a new ride! Delirious is band new this year and located in the Route 76 section of the park, over by Steel Venom. Billed as a family thrill ride, you must be 48 inches tall to ride and it’s rated as a level 4 thrill ride on a 5 point scale. A level 4 means – medium to high speeds with height and/or moderate to rapid breaking. Delirious can hold 24 riders at a time. It looks like a huge circle and what you are thinking is exactly what happens. The car goes all the way around that track, meaning it goes upside down! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to go on Delirious so I cannot share any first-hand experience. But I will say, it looked pretty cool! It looked like they were making some last minute adjustments to the ride so it was closed while we were in that area of the park. But there’s always next time!
Free Wifi
As someone who is always posting to social media while we are out and about this is so greatly appreciated! Valleyfair now offers free Wifi while inside the park! It’s really easy to log in. All you do is go to your wifi settings and chose the Valleyfair wifi and you are set. I used it the whole time we were there and did not find a dead spot in the park anywhere!
Route 76 Hot Dog Stand
There really is nothing like a tasty hot dog in the summer and now Valleyfair is bringing you hot dogs with a new spin on them at Route 76 Hot Dog Stand! This will be located in the same area as Delirious. But I would suggest visiting after you have your turn on the new ride. Route 76 Hot Dog Stand will feature a rotating menu filled with signature hot dogs. What’s a signature hot dog you ask? Well, it’s a hot dog with a Valleyfair twist. Rumor has it there will be The Hot Dish Hot Dog which is a tasty hot dog topped with one of Minnesota’s signature hot dishes!
Nordic Waffles
When I saw they opened a waffle stand at Valleyfair I was super excited. I love eating waffles at amusement parks! Peyton and I headed over and tried out the S’mores waffle. I’m going to be honest and say I was a smidge disappointed. First, the waffle is not fresh, it’s made ahead of time and was lukewarm or room temperature at best. So it was pretty floppy. The amount of toppings I felt was proportionate to the waffle but because there was no heat the chocolate never melted. So there was no gooey yummy s’mores goodness. It tasted good but I had anticipated a warm, fluffy waffle with marshmallow, melted chocolate and sprinkled graham crackers. Instead, it was a lukewarm, floppy waffle with marshmallow, 4 pieces of chocolate and graham cracker. Nordic Waffle is not your typical waffle, it has a Scandinavian take on waffles which makes them feel a little like a crepe. Plus, in Scandinavia they don’t top their waffles with butter and syrups, they top them with more filling toppings like meats, cheeses, and more. I would definitely try a different waffle next time we are at the park, I think I would do the all-day breakfast one filled with eggs, bacon, and cheese, a Turkey Chipotle Waffle, and a Cinnamon Sugar Waffle.
More Seating and Shade for Route 76
This was very noticeable while we were walking around Route 76. I instantly noticed the shaded areas. Last summer, I had to stand holding all our gear and there was nearly no shade to be found in Route 76 so I am so grateful that they added more! Plus the additional seating was noticed. Now, us parents have somewhere to sit and wait while the kids go crazy on Steel Venom or North Star!
Revamp Mobile App
Valleyfair also made a few updates to their mobile app. Now, you can find your friend in the park by using the mobile app! Since it was just Peyton and I this weekend I was not able to use this feature but it should come in handy if you are there with a large group of people. You can also get directions to attractions or any location in the park using the app from your current location. I loved this feature! You don’t have to carry around the map you can use your phone to locate the next attraction or eatery you want to visit!
These are just a few of the highlights we learned about while visiting Valleyfair this weekend. Be sure check out Valleyfair.com for more information, a complete list of park hours and special events. Plus you’ll find some ticket deals on there too!
