We always talk about winter survival kits and roadside emergency kits but have you ever thought about freshening up your roadside kit when the weather is warmer? Many of us don’t give it a second thought. So today, I’m going to share with you, what items I put in our Dodge Journey for the summer.
Water
If we haven’t used the water we kept in the car for winter I switch it out for the spring. I always keep a case of water in the car with us. Especially when it’s warmer, it’s extremely important to stay hydrated. When Peyton and I go on road trips I double or triple the amount of water we bring with us. That way, we can grab them as we need water throughout our trip but we also have a fair supply in case we have car trouble.
Windshield Wiper Fluid
In the winter I switch our windshield wiper fluid out for one that can withstand colder temperatures. In the spring I switch our wiper fluid out for one that can cut through bugs. I also like to keep a container in our Journey too. Bugs tend to be more active in the early morning and after dusk. Both seem to be times that I am either taking Peyton to school, running to afterschool activities or whatnot. So we tend to go through wiper fluid fairly quickly. And let me tell you, it is not fun running out on a back country road at dusk when the bugs seem to be attracted to our windshield.
Snacks
Now is the time to rethink the snacks you keep in your vehicle. You need snacks that can withstand the heat. So nothing with chocolate or yogurt coatings. Anything that can melt needs to be switched out for snacks that won’t melt. We tend to go for nuts or a mixed nut blend. They seem to hold up well with higher temperatures and humidity.
Chargers, Sunglasses, and Sunblocks
It may seem silly to check for the phone chargers, but trust me, double check they are still in the car. You’d be surprised at how many times they grow legs and walk off. It’s summer, the sun is bright, toss a few extra pairs of sunglasses in the car as well. And lastly, sunblock. We wear sunblock year round but when spring is upon us I try to keep a bottle in the car too. If you have car trouble and have to walk, you’ll want to make sure you are protected.
These are just a few things I do to make sure our car is ready for warmer weather.
