Earlier this year we had a man from the environmental agency come in and talk to us about recycling. When he saw a Keurig machine in our office he nearly fell over. See, my day job, I am an accounting manager at a local tax and accounting firm. We go through cases and cases of K-cups, like the large 80 pk cases, every month. We have a fair amount of traffic. So he discussed with us ways to recycle our k-cups and showed us how to do that. But it got me to thinking, what could we do with those coffee grounds? I know they are great for use in compost but you know what they are also good for? Scrubs! Think about it, we head to our local bath store and spend $30 on a large jar of sugar scrub. We could be making our own from used coffee grounds! And needless to say, I have plenty of coffee grounds to use!
This month we are trying out this yummy coffee by Sundae Coffee. We received a Sundae Coffee 48 count variety pack filled with flavors like – Butter Pecan, Chocolate Swirl, Dulce de Leche, Ice Cream Sandwich, Maple Walnut, Mint Chocolate Chip, Mocha Chip, Peanut Butter Cup, Pralines and Cream, Rocky Road, Toffee Crunch, and Vanilla Swirl. So many choices!
When you brew these coffees they smell amazing! It’s like having a little dessert to start your day without all the extra calories. So imagine if you could start your day in the shower with those aromas?? I decided to save the used K-cups and make a sugar scrub with them. Pralines and Cream went fastest with my family so that is the sugar scrub we made. A Pralines and Cream Sugar Scrub, but you could use any of the coffees in the pack to make this scrub just switch out the coffee grounds for your preferred flavor.
So here is what you will need to make this 3 ingredient Sundae Coffee Sugar Scrub at home –
5 used Pralines and Cream Sundae Coffee k-cups
3 Tablespoons of Sugar
1/4 cup Coconut Oil, melted
Your first step is to take a sharp knife and cut the tops off the Sundae Coffee Pralines and Cream k-cups and pour the coffee grounds into a medium-size glass bowl. Now you can recycle the empty k-cups!
Next, pour the sugar in the same bowl as the coffee grounds.
Lastly, melt your coconut oil until it is liquid in 25-30 second intervals. Be sure to stir it in between intervals. Once the coconut oil is melted pour it in the same bowl as the coffee grounds and sugar.
Mix until the coconut oil is coating the sugar and coffee grounds and everything is combined.
Lastly, pour in a glass jar.
Now you have your very own Pralines & Cream Coffee scrub to use in the shower! Your shower is going to smell amazing! And your skin will feel refreshed and smooth.
