Peyton loves theatre so I try to take her to whatever performances we can get to. Stages Theatre is one of our favorite places to attend shows at. Why? Because the actors and actresses are children! Yes, there are some adults but for the most part there are kids acting at Stages and putting on incredible performances. Last weekend we took in Bear Snores On. You may have read the book, Bear Snores On, it’s very popular in the preschool and kindergarten crowd. Peyton was thrilled to see one of her favorite books performed live.
Bear Snores On was nearly an all children cast. Just one adult was present on stage – Bear, played by Brent Teclaw. Brent did an amazing job as bear. We’ve seen him in numerous performances over the years and he takes on the character each and every time. While I always recognize his face I never have a difficult time believing him as the character he is playing.
Bear Snores On stayed true to the story, all the animals where present and the children did a fantastic job. Peyton’s favorite were the birds. She just loved the raven – Edgar played by Emma Kempf and the Wren – Winne played by Camille Norman. Both ladies were fabulous! Emma delivered Edgar’s sarcastic attitude perfectly. Camille did a great job expressing Winnie’s innocence and bubbly personality. But my favorite was the Gopher – Gloria played by Sara Magnuson. Sara has the Minnesota accent down and mannerisms perfectly. I don’t think anyone could have played the part any better.
The show lasted just shy of an hour which is perfect for the intended crowd. These young ones get squirrely! I highly suggest you arrive about 20 minutes early to get your seat and a booster seat too. We arrived just a few minutes before curtain and all the boosters were taken. It’s hard for little ones to see over adults. So Peyton sat on my lap a fair amount of the play or on our jackets to give her a little boost.
If you are looking for something to do this winter I suggest taking in a children’s play. They are reasonably priced and kids love seeing kids on stage. Our favorite part of Stages Theatre is at the end of each show the actors and actresses are available for autographs and questions. Peyton loves walking through the line and talking with each character. It’s always a blast!
Check out Stages Theatre for upcoming shows and performances.
