When it comes to home renovations, you may think that these are things that are going to cost you a small fortune, and whilst there’s no doubt that many renovations do cost a lot of money and that some are more or less expensive than others, there are definitely a good deal of things that you can do on a small or limited budget and that you can even do by yourself if necessary.
In this post, we’re going to share with you just what some of those easy fix-ups are that you can do to your home even when on a budget.
Flooring:
Many people associate flooring with high costs, and although it certainly can be costly to buy and install flooring, it’s not always as expensive as it has been in the past, and a big part of being able to save money when it comes to flooring is learning how to shop around. You can approach companies who are getting rid of old stock and simply want to clear it so are willing to give you a good price, or you can also look for companies who actually keep a range of what’s known as offcuts. These are essentially spare of extra pieces of things like flooring and carpet that were part of a larger piece but were left over – these are often available for great prices and are usually quite high end. If not, they’re just the same as the stuff that’s been sold for the full price.
Furniture:
Depending on where you buy furniture from, it can be an expensive purchase, but it’s not always the case. You can find amazing furniture if you buy second hand – and often it’s going to be quite unique and really good quality. The other places to look are in the sales section of stores or even lower-end furniture stores where you can find great looking pieces for little money.
If buying new furniture just isn’t in the budget, then you can look at getting creative with the stuff you’ve already got. If you look online on places like Pinterest and even YouTube, you’ll find plenty of tutorials showing you things like how to repurpose old furniture or how to give it a new lease of life through painting or varnishing it. This is something you can easily do at home by yourself and you really don’t need any experience in it because there are so many tutorials out there, so you can have fun, get creative, and end up with a piece of furniture that looks brand new.
Painting:
If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to add a little something to your house without breaking the bank, then painting is the way to go. One of the best things about painting is that it’s something that pretty much anyone can do, so it really doesn’t need a special skill set. Of course, it will take a little planning and it’s not the kind of thing you want to be doing a sloppy or incomplete job with, but it’s absolutely a job that you can do even if you’ve never painted before. If you’re looking for some ideas to get started with painting, then have a look online at places like Pinterest, YouTube, or even just decorating and home magazines and blogs to get some ideas and inspiration – and possibly even tutorials to help you find your perfect look.
Roof:
The roof of your home is a pretty crucial and important feature, and if it gets damaged then it can definitely become quite expensive, so if you’ve started to notice some issues with it already, then getting it taken care of sooner rather than later can really make a big difference and certainly won’t cost anywhere near as much as it would if it had been damaged.
Doors:
Unless your house is a completely open plan – and even if it is, then are still going to some rooms that will require doors. Even if it’s just the main door to the house, then these are items that can become worn and aged over time, so if you want to give the place a new look, then although you can definitely find doors that are expensive, it’s not always going to be the case if you know the places to shop around. If you don’t have it in the budget to completely replace the doors, then you can simply give them a new lease of life through some door paint or varnish to brighten them up. You’ll be surprised at what a difference a few coats of simple white door or wood-effect paint can have on a door, and like painting in general, or painting furniture, it’s really not something you need to be experienced in to make a great job. If you follow instructions and take the time to do it right, then you’ll be able to give your doors a great look in no time.
Heating & Cooling Systems:
If you live in a place that gets particularly cold during the winter or warm during the summer, then you’re going to find that you’ll be dependent on good heating and cooling systems, so instead of waiting until these get broken or are in need of bigger repairs or even full replacement, then it’s worth making sure you’re keeping on top of maintaining them all the time so that they won’t cost you a fortune when you do come to have them fixed. The best way to do this is making sure they’re being used once in a while, even if not completely needed, just to make sure they’re running, and if you do need some advice on how to maintain your systems, then it’s best to contact an AC Repair company who can give you some tips on taking care of things.
Storage:
Although storage is not exactly a home repair or fix up, it’s definitely something that can make a big positive difference in the house and allow you to keep things organized and free from clutter. If you’ve ever lived or been in a cluttered and messy place, you know how annoying and stressful it is, and when everything has a place and even better things that don’t need to be seen are hidden from view, then it really helps to maintain a tidy place and give it an overall free and pleasant energy.
Garden:
You may not think of your garden as an important place to focus on when making any changes to your house, but the garden is something you can definitely get a lot of enjoyment from – no matter what the time of year, but if it’s in a mess, then it’s not going to be a place that you or anyone else will want to spend time, so if you want some simple tips to keeping your garden tidy and get some ideas for the things you can do with it that really don’t cost a lot of money or take a lot of time, then you can find plenty of stunning ideas and lots of inspiration online. Whether you want to just start with keeping the grass tidy or you want to start adding things like herb and vegetable gardens, or even go all out and add a pool or hot tub, then there are plenty of ways you can do things like this in your garden without spending a crazy amount of money to get it done – even pools are nowhere near as costly as they once were and are now more common.
