Gift Ideas for New Moms

If your friend is expecting their first child, I’m sure they have been asking you lots of questions. There might be stories about birth, feedings, general tips and advice. It is such an exciting time but the unknown can be a little scary.  I like to get my new mommy friends a special gift to help celebrate becoming a mom.  But what do you get them that will help them ease into motherhood?

Peyton New bornFashionable Pjs or Comfy Outfit

For a few weeks, your friend most likely won’t be fitting into her normal clothes. Those first few weeks are tiring and you tend to spend them holed up in the home trying to find your groove. So what is better than some cute jammies to hang out in? You could get some yoga or sweat pants too, as it’s all about comfort in those early days. It’s all about baby snuggles and resting whenever you can. Then if anyone unexpected drops by she’ll feel comfortable answering the door in her new clothes.

Something for the Baby

Shopping for the baby is always a fun time. You could be practical and buy things like diapers, wipes or lotions. You can never have too many, right? But shopping for clothes is much more fun! You could even get something like a sun hat or bows or headbands for a baby girl.

Homecooked Meal

I like to bring over a nice meal for the new momma. I remember when I brought Peyton home I was so tired and just trying to figure everything out, I didn’t have time to cook. Crockpot meals are a great way to help out new parents. You can toss all the ingredients in a gallon ziplock bag and write directions on it, then when they are ready to make it they can dump it in a crockpot and walk away.  Another option would be to bring the fixings over for sandwiches or even a dish that reheats nicely.  Plus, if the meal is in the refrigerator, it can just be heated up as and when it is needed. The thought of facing the grocery store with a newborn can be a daunting idea. I remember trying to navigate the grocery store with Peyton at just a few days old, it was a disaster. The car seat took up most of the cart so there was not much room for groceries. So taking over a meal is a winner in a lot of ways.

Those are just a few ideas for new moms. What are your favorite gift ideas for new parents?

May I also suggest a generic store gift card (for groceries or a place that sells a lot of different items); this way, parents can pick up what they need as they need it.
