It was a very simple recipe that I found on Betty Crocker. Just a few ingredients, a slow cooker and 8-10 hours is all you need to create this dish.
Before you start be sure to gather these items –
Slow Cooker
Slow Cooker Liner
1/2 pound beef stew meat
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 can (10 3/4 ounces) condensed golden mushroom soup
1 jar (2 1/2 ounces) Green Giant™ sliced mushrooms, drained
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup sour cream
Egg Noodles
Since I use the slow cooker a lot I have a few different sizes. I also like to use liners because it makes clean up a snap. Sometimes when food is cooking all day it can be a bear to try and get it all off the ceramic without letting it soak. So I highly recommend you pick up a box or two of the liners which can be found at Target or Walmart or even Amazon.
First, find a space where you can plug the slow cooker in and it will not be disturbed for 10 hours. Also make sure noting else is around it as the cooker does get hot and can melt plastic. Next insert the liner.
Next dump the meat in. Then slice up the onion. I prefer to do them somewhat small so my daughter doesn’t really notice them and she’ll eat them. Then pour in the soup, drain the mushrooms and dump them in. Toss in a little pepper and put the lid on. That’s it! Now turn it on low and wait 8-10 hours. Since I doubled our recipe I let it cook for 10 hours. My slow cooker also has a timmer and at the 10 hours it shuts off and turns to keeping the food warm. I love this function. If you are looking for a slow cooker I would either get one that can be programmed and maybe a few different sizes like a 3 quart and larger one. Various recipes will call for different sizes. But don’t stress if your slow cooker is bigger than required. Only stress if it’s smaller.
When we got home from school all I had to do was boil some water and cook the noodles. Then I added the sour cream to the stroganoff and stirred it until is dissolved into the sauce. Be gentle when doing this or you will break apart all the meat and have just little pieces. I also decided to steam a bag of frozen peas to add as a side dish. It took about 15 minutes and dinner was on the table! And it was a hit! My daughter didn’t care for the mushrooms so she picked them out. But she loved the rest.
