Have you ever sat back and looked and your life and thought – This was not the plan? I know I have. I never thought I would be a single parent, have 1 child and be a blogger. I had dreams of living in a huge home with a husband that worked at some white collar job and having several kids. But life does not always work out the way we planed. For Charlie Goldwyn his life was not going the way he had planed. Just two years earlier he had it all. His amazing wife, Mira, made life a treasure. They lived in fabulous building with thier little boy, Caleb. Charlie was a successful lawyer at prestigious law firm. Life was good. But then Mira was killed in a plane crash and Charlie’s whole world was turned upside down. He threw himself into his work. He spent the next two years working his tail off in hopes of becoming partner. He gave it all. He never saw himself as being a widow or a single dad.It was Mira’s birthday and only the second birthday Charlie had experienced since her passing. It was a tough day, emotionally and mentally. But he was at work, just coming off a 70+ hour marathon on a case. But he had won! The case had been dismissed. All Charlie wanted to do was go home and see his boy, Caleb. it had been 3 days since he’d seen his son. It was his dead wife’s birthday. All Charlie was wanted was to be home with his family. But it was the kick off to the summer interns party that night and there was no getting out of it. Charlie thought he could just make a quick pass through and sneak out. But every time he tried to leave it was another wave of people stopping him to talk. Then Charlie made his first mistake, he ordered a drink. And another. And another. His best friend and colleague, Moose, could see Charlie needed to get out before he said something he would regret. And just as they were about to step out of the party an announcement came over and a partner wanted to congratulate Charlie on his win.
Charlie was trapped. There was no way getting out of this. And it was at this moment he also realized he was drunk. But he made his way to the podium and said a few words. Well, he actually said a lot words. A lot of harsh words that were not favorable to his clients or the firm. When the speech was over Moose got Charlie out of there. They thought that was the end of it. That Charlie made a fool of himself at a company party and that was it. Little did they know it was just the beginning.
Cristina Alger did a fabulous job writing This Was Not the Plan. I really enjoyed reading the novel. I found it to move at a nice pace and was an easy read. The characters are well developed and the story line is engaging. I was so invested in the characters that I couldn’t put the book down and read it in one day. If you are looking for a good read I suggest This Was Not the Plan. It’s enjoyable and has a lesson to teach.
