Today I decided to try something a little different with Peyton’s lunch. Last week we had her annual checkup and I was a tad concerned on her growth percentages. So in order to make sure her health does not become an issue I have decided to make some small changes to her lunches. No, I am not cutting out treats. She is just going to be getting smaller portions. And I’ll be trying to make them full of more protein. Today I decided to try BFree Wraps to make our turkey and cheese pinwheels. BFree is a gluten free and wheat free bread company. I was a little skeptical about replacing Peyton’s whole wheat bread for a wheat free gluten free wrap but I wanted to give it a try and see if she even noticed. The BFree tortilla felt just like every other tortilla I have ever used. I layered on my turkey and Colby Jack cheese slice. I was surprised at how easy it was to roll the BFree tortilla up. Not one rip or tear as I pulled it tight and rolled the cheese in meat into little pinwheels. Then I sliced it and placed the pinwheels into Peyton’s bento box. Extremely simple!
Last week when I went grocery shopping I may have been a tad hungry. We ended up with lots and lots of fresh fruit in our fridge, including two types of cherries. Peyton loves to eat cherries but she can be messy trying to spit the pits out. I decided to take a handful of Bing Cherries, slice them in two and pit them for her.
The treat was an easy decision. We had gone and seen The BFG last week and still had a half box of Reeses Pieces sitting on the counter so I put a few in the bento box. Same with our Finding Dory Goldfish crackers, I saw the bag on the counter and thought we better use them up before they go stale.
The last part was a tough choice. We have so many cups of yogurt, pudding and applesauce in our fridge it was hard to choose. But Peyton leaves in 2 weeks to go visit her cousins for 2 weeks so we really need to use up anything that will spoil while she is gone. That is how I ended up with Finding Dory Yogurt. It spoils next week so in the lunch box it goes!
All in all, I think this is a pretty healthy box. It’s balanced without being too extreme. And it has a nice variety. I’m sure Peyton is going to love it when she opens her lunch today. She likes to be surprised so I never let her know what I pack.
Below are links to items I used to make today’s lunch.
