If your skin feels a little dry from time to time, then you’re not alone. It’s a condition that affects millions of people all over the world.
But what’s actually causing it? Why doesn’t skin remain beautiful and supple throughout the day? Let’s take a look.
You’re Not Eating Right
If you’re not eating right, you’re at a much higher risk of dry skin and skin conditions. The biggest issue is usually failing to get sufficient calories. If you don’t eat enough, the skin will slowly become more parched over time, unable to produce a moisture barrier to protect itself. You may also be eating the wrong types of foods. Donuts are not conducive to good skin health (or overall health, for that matter).
You’re Not Using Moisturizers
Using moisturizers on the skin is fast becoming a necessity in this day and age. That’s because there are so many factors in the environment that dry out the skin. Alcohol in hand wash, for instance, is a good example. This chemical strips the skin of its sebum, leaving it much more prone to drying out over time.
You’re Shaving Too Often
Shaving not only irritates the skin, it can also dry it out. That’s why it’s a good idea to consider removing hair permanently. This way, you can avoid the daily abrasion and stop having to put chemical shaving foams directly onto the skin.
You’re Not Getting Enough Sleep
Sleep quality and duration can also affect the quality of your skin. The more you get and the deeper it is, the better the quality of your skin will be.
If you’re not getting enough sleep, try turning off your phone in the evening. Also, practice stress reduction techniques that make it easier to fall asleep in the evening. Try if you can to avoid those pesky mid-afternoon naps since these could affect your sleep quality later.
Please note that not all people need to get more than seven hours of sleep per night. However, you should aim for this if you’re like most people.
You’re Not Applying Sunscreen
Skin can begin to dry out quite considerably if you don’t use enough sunscreen. The sun can bake it over time, leading to dry, damaged and crusty skin – not good.
Applying sunscreen if you’re going outdoors, therefore, is a must. Better yet, try to cover up if you’re going to be in direct sunlight for any length of time. That way, you can block out the vast majority of the sun’s rays.
You’re Not Drinking The Right Teas
The food and drink you consume has a massive effect on the way you appear. Drinking alcohol, for instance, is notorious for destroying the skin and making you look older than you actually are. By contrast, green tea is actually good for the skin and could in fact help prevent you from developing wrinkles. That’s because green tea contains compounds that actively stimulate hydration in the skin and can actively prevent the damage done by the sun’s rays.
