Captain Marvel is the newest Marvel Super Hero to have a film come out. And it’s the first stand-alone, female-franchise title character film Marvel has ever released. We recently went to a screening of Captain Marvel and cannot wait to see it again. But until then, we made some tasty treats inspired by Captain Marvel. Today I’m going to show you how to make these JUMBO size Captain Marvel Cupcakes. I will warn you, you’ll have to do a little prep before you start baking. While those toppers are adorable they also take about 45 minutes to set up.
So, to create your very own Jumbo Captain Marvel Cupcakes you will need the following –
1 box White Cake Mix plus ingredients required to make the mix
Royal Blue Food Color Gel
Red Food Color Gel
Gold Food Color Gel
White Jumbo Cupcake Liners
Yellow Chocolate Wafers
Gold Food Grade Glitter
2 C Butter, Room temperature
8-10 C Powdered Sugar
4 Tbsp Vanilla Extract
4Tbsp Milk (optional)
Piping Bag
1M Piping Tip
Sweet Tooth Fairy Super Hero Sprinkle Mix
Northern Star Mold
Create the Captain Marvel Emblem
First, I suggest making your Captain Marvel emblems, also known as the North Star or Bethlehem Star. Take about half a bag of the yellow chocolates and place them in a Ziploc bag, melt in 30-second intervals in the microwave until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Once melted, snip a tip off the bag and squeeze into the molds. Place the molds in the refrigerator for about a half hour to an hour to set up. Once they are firm, remove from the mold and use a butter knife to trim off any excess. Spray with ediable gold glitter to give it a little sparkle. I suggest placing these back in the fridge until you are ready to use them.
Bake 6 Jumbo Cupcakes
Next up is preparing and baking the cupcakes. Take the white cake mix and prepare per the directions on the box. It doesn’t matter which white cake mix you use so feel free to use any brand. Once the batter is ready, equally separate it into 3 bowls.
In bowl 1 add the Royal Blue food color gel. In bowl 2 add the Red food color gel. In bowl 3 add the Gold food color gel. Use 2-5 drops per color until you have your desired color. The more gold you use the darker gold it will become.
Take your jumbo cupcake pan and place the white liners in them. Then take a spoon and alternating spooning the red, blue and gold batter into the liners until they are 2/3 of the way full. Bake per the directions on the cake mix box.
Once baked, set aside to cool. You will need these cupcakes to cool completely before icing them. If you don’t wait, the icing could melt or the cupcakes will cave in from the weight of the frosting and emblem.
1st Layer of Frosting
First, whip 1 cup of the butter until creamy. Works best with room temperature butter. Takes about 5 minutes.
Then add in 2 cups of powdered sugar until combined.
Next, add in 2 Tbsp vanilla extract and slowly add in 2-3 more cups of powdered sugar.
If your frosting feels too stiff you can add in a little milk or heavy cream to help soften it.
Separate into 3 bowls and add the red, blue and gold just like we did with the cake batter.
Next, lay a piece of saran wrap on the counter and place the frosting in lines next to each other. Fold the saran wrap over and twist ends. Snip the end off one side and place into piping bag. You can use a tip or just cut a big hole. I cut a whole and frosted the first layer in a swirl.
Then roll the cupcake in the Sweet Tooth Fairy Super Hero sprinkles.
2nd Layer of Frosting
First, whip 1 cup of room temperature butter until creamy.
This time we are going to color it all gold!
Place the frosting tip in the piping bag and then add your frosting.
Place a substantial amount of the frosting on the cupcake and then add your topper. You will want to place these in the fridge to firm up. That chocolate topper is fairly heavy and can collapse the frosting if left at room temperature.
This recipe will make 6 jumbo cupcakes with toppers.
