  • A Little Throwback to Sea World

One of my fondest memories growing up was the vacation my grandparents took me on to Sea World. I was about 6 years old and it was my first time to a park with sea animals. Oh boy was I excited! Back in 1983, Sea World was a lot different than it is now. I… [Continue Reading]

  • Minnesota to Kentucky in One Day

Can it be done? Can one person drive straight through from Minnesota to Bowling Green, Kentucky in one day? It’s nearly a 12-hour drive without any hiccups.  That’s a long drive. But I did it! That’s exactly what I did when I took Peyton to Bowling Green, Kentucky over MEA break. We drove the whole… [Continue Reading]

  • Wall Drug

Stopping at Wall Drug is a must if you are in South Dakota. I had never been before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. When we arrived, immediately I felt overwhelmed. Thank goodness we visited during the off-season, I don’t think I could’ve driven Wall Drug during peak season. It would’ve been way too… [Continue Reading]

  • Crazy Horse

South Dakota is steeped in history, it’s one of the main reasons I chose to take the kids here for MEA break. After visiting Mount Rushmore  we headed over to Crazy Horse. It’s only about a 15-20 minute drive. Crazy Horse is a privately funded memorial surviving on donations from the public. It’s a shame there is… [Continue Reading]

The Great Pumpkin Fest at Valley Fair

The Great Pumpkin Fest

Growing up in Minnesota meant spending summers at Valley Fair. We would usually go with school and then my dad would take us at least once during the summer. They were some of the best memories of my childhood. But I don't remember them being open in the fall back then. Now, they are! And there are two different events that take place - The Great Pumpkin Fest and Valley Scare. Peyton and I took in the Great Pumpkin Fest and are going to share what we thought. So, first off, it's fall people. ...

When Should I Get New Tires for My Car?

When should I get new tires for my car? This is a question I think about every year, usually in the fall. Currently, my lovely Dodge Journey has a little over 30k in miles on it. The tires are the ones I bought the car with, you know, the factory ones that are not supposed to last very long. I swear they all wear out by 35k. So guess what? I'm getting new tires before winter hits. I always take my Journey to the dealership for repairs and maintenance. It's just easier to have it done all in ...

Discover O’Brien’s Public House

O'Brien's Public House

One of my favorite things to do when we travel is trying out new restaurants. New, local restaurants that the locals like to eat at.  Very rarely will you ever see us post about a chain. So this past weekend while we were in Shakopee, Minnesota we tried out O'Brien's Public House. It's located in downtown Shakopee with plenty of parking and easy access to the main roads. When we found out this was where the locals like to eat I knew we had to have dinner there. With one step inside, I could ...

Fall Family Fun at Sever’s Fall Festival

Sever's Corn Maze

Can you believe that I have lived in Minnesota all my life and I have never been to a corn maze? I even lived in Shakopee, for a few years, home to one of the best family corn mazes around. And yet, I had never been! Well, this year is the year I am going to one. And I'm bringing Peyton with me, she has never been to one either! Sever's Fall Festival is not your typical maze. Every year they have a theme, this year its Dive Under the Sea. That theme dictates what the maze is going to look ...

A Little Bathroom Makeover

Bamboo Bath Mat

We have a tile bathroom floor, while it looks beautiful it can also be dangerous when you are getting out of the shower. I am always telling Peyton to make sure she is careful when she steps out and to make sure she puts a towel down before she gets in. But a towel can still slip on a tile floor. So, today, we are making a change. We are adding a bamboo mat to our bathroom. This bamboo bath mat will take away the concerns about slipping and falling while stepping out of the shower. With ...
