  • A Little Throwback to Sea World

One of my fondest memories growing up was the vacation my grandparents took me on to Sea World. I was about 6 years old and it was my first time to a park with sea animals. Oh boy was I excited! Back in 1983, Sea World was a lot different than it is now. I… [Continue Reading]

  • Explore Bourbon Country

Yes, you read that right, let’s explore bourbon country! It’s similar to how people explore wine country. They head to a vineyard, sip some wine, enjoy small bites and make a vacation out of it. So why not do that with Bourbon? Kentucky is home to some of the most spectacular Bourbon distillers, you can… [Continue Reading]

  • Wind Cave National Park

While we were visiting South Dakota I wanted to spend some time in the National Parks. There are a few different parks you can visit while in the Rapid City area. Unfortunately, time flew by and we were only able to fit in one National Park. Wind Cave National Park is located just a short… [Continue Reading]

  • What’s New at Valleyfair for 2018

Growing up, the annual trip to Valleyfair in Shakopee, Minnesota was a day we all looked forward to. Every year there is always something new at Valleyfair. We’d usually go once with family and once with school. I have many fond memories of those trips. Now, that I am a mom, I take Peyton to… [Continue Reading]

  • Dinosaur Park

If you’ve followed us for a while, you probably know Peyton is obsessed with The Land Before Time. She owns every single movie and episode ever made. Even the one that came out earlier this year! When I found out there was a dinosaur park in Rapid City I knew it was going to be… [Continue Reading]

  • Christmas Village

It’s always Christmas time at Christmas Village in Rapid City, South Dakota. Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. I love decorating our tree, the home and our walkway. It’s something Peyton and I have been doing together since the day she was born. Granted, when she was a baby she sat and watched. But… [Continue Reading]

  • 5 Apple Orchards to Visit This Fall

It’s nearly fall y’all! Can you believe how quickly summer just flew by?? It feels like it was just yesterday that Peyton was getting out of the school and we were packing up the car to head to Wisconsin Dells. But yet, here we are, in school and starting to winterize the yard.  I cannot… [Continue Reading]

  • Crazy Horse

South Dakota is steeped in history, it’s one of the main reasons I chose to take the kids here for MEA break. After visiting Mount Rushmore  we headed over to Crazy Horse. It’s only about a 15-20 minute drive. Crazy Horse is a privately funded memorial surviving on donations from the public. It’s a shame there is… [Continue Reading]

  • 4 Things to do Near Charleroi, PA with Kids

Traveling with kids has it’s up and downs. But one way to make sure there are more ups than down is to plan out events, attractions and stops that are fun for them. And that’s just what I am going to do today. I’m going to share with you 4 things to do near Charleroi,… [Continue Reading]

  • Minnesota to Kentucky in One Day

Can it be done? Can one person drive straight through from Minnesota to Bowling Green, Kentucky in one day? It’s nearly a 12-hour drive without any hiccups.  That’s a long drive. But I did it! That’s exactly what I did when I took Peyton to Bowling Green, Kentucky over MEA break. We drove the whole… [Continue Reading]

State Fair Giant Marshmallow Trix Treats

Our last giant marshmallow treat was such a hit I decided to make another one. This time, Peyton and I headed to the grocery store and looked for a fun cereal to use. And we came home with........Trix Trolls World Tour with Marshmallows cereal! Trolls World Tour was a big deal in our home when it came out. I think Peyton watched it over a dozen times the first weekend.  So we decided we wanted to try this cereal and turn it into a giant marshmallow treat! To make these at home you will need ...

State Fair Peach Lemonade

Whenever we go to the Minnesota State Fair, having fresh-squeezed lemonade is a must. It's one of the first things we look for once we pass through the gates. But sometimes, at various state fairs, you can find flavored lemonades.  So, today we are going to make peach lemonade. It still starts with the fresh-squeezed lemons for the base but now we are going to give it a little twist with peaches. To make a batch of State Fair Peach Lemonade you will need the following - 3 large Peaches 1 ...

State Fair Cream Cheese Wontons

While this food is not a traditional fair food it is inspired by our one and only Lee-Ann Chins. A Minnesota company that has had a booth at the Minnesota State Fair in the Food building. Plus, these cream cheese wontons are a staple for me. I LOVE them! I know throughout the United States you can find different variations in the filling of a wonton but for me it's all about simplicity. You don't need a ton of stuff in there, just cream cheese. While these are a simple dish to make at home ...

State Fair Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Fudge

Fudge is a treat I usually only indulge in a couple of times of the year. The Minnesota State Fair is one of those times. I'll buy a sample box with 5 different flavors and savors it for a few weeks. But with no Minnesota State Fair this year, only a drive-thru fair that does not include fudge and very limited travel for Peyton and myself we have not bought any fudge! So this year, I'm making some! This fudge is not as dense as most fudge I usually buy, it's a lighter fudge, very creamy. If ...

State Fair Pork Chops on a Stick

About 3 years ago, Peyton discovered Peterson's Pork Chops on a Stick at the Minnesota State Fair. I had never tried them before because I just thought, it's a pork chop, I can eat that any time. But what makes these pork chops so special is the season and the grilling. They are juicy and full of flavor. And once you've taken a nibble you'll want your own.  Without the Minnesota State Fair this year Peyton was really bummed she wasn't going to get her fill of Peterson's Pork Chops on a Stick. ...
