  • Custer County Candy Company

On our trip through South Dakota, we stumbled across an adorable old fashioned candy store. The Custer County Candy Company is located in Custer just a 15 minuted drive from Wind Cave National Park. It’s right off the main drag, tucked back just a little ways off the street. If you see a huge metal… [Continue Reading]

  • Make Yourself at Home with Hilton Garden Inn

When I started to plan our trip to Rapid City, South Dakota I knew we were going to need a place to stay. Traveling with two kids, I had some specific amenities and qualities I was looking for in a hotel. Here are a few things I was looking for – It had to be… [Continue Reading]

  • Wind Cave National Park: Scenic Cave Tour

Peyton discovered cave tours last year when I took her on one in southern Minnesota. From that moment on, she has been begging to go on more cave tours. South Dakota has several guided tours available to the public at various caves. Since we were already exploring Wind Cave National Park I decided to take… [Continue Reading]

  • 4 Places to Explore Near Waynesboro, Georgia

The weather is supposed to start cooling off soon and fall is right around the corner. But there’s still plenty of time to get out there and enjoy some of this beautiful weather. Georgia is beautiful year-round but in the fall it’s the perfect time to get out and do a little hiking or exploring.… [Continue Reading]

  • Toll Roads No Problem with the FastToll App

Peyton and I are in the Chicago area at least every other month. But I don’t want to invest in an I-Pass because I don’t need it in Minnesota. And Illinois is really the only place that we travel that has toll roads. But stopping at all those toll roads adds on travel time. That’s… [Continue Reading]

  • Kona Ice of Stillwater

Every weekend I look for food trucks that will be in our local area. Since the Minnesota State Fair was canceled and we can’t really travel much, finding and trying out new food trucks every weekend has kinda become our thing. I’ve seen Kona Ice of Stillwater posts in our local mom’s groups and I… [Continue Reading]

  • ValleyFair is BACK!!!

ValleyFair is back! It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to walk through the turnstiles and enjoy a day at ValleyFair. I was extremely excited when I heard they were opening at the end of May. Last year we definitely felt a void in our summer without our beloved ValleyFair. So we could… [Continue Reading]

  • Reptile Gardens: Wild Animal Park

Peyton loves to go to zoos and it is my goal to take her to as many as I can while she is little. When I heard about the Reptile Gardens: Wild Animal Park I wanted to check it out. At first, I thought it was a zoo full snakes but I was completely wrong.… [Continue Reading]

  • Wind Cave National Park

While we were visiting South Dakota I wanted to spend some time in the National Parks. There are a few different parks you can visit while in the Rapid City area. Unfortunately, time flew by and we were only able to fit in one National Park. Wind Cave National Park is located just a short… [Continue Reading]

  • Explore the Lincoln Park Zoo

Another place I had never been on all my travel to Illinois was the Lincoln Park Zoo.  It’s a free zoo so I’m not sure why we’ve never visited but I decided we were going to check it out this time. Spending the day at the zoo is one of Peyton’s and my favorite things… [Continue Reading]

Quick and Simple Hobo Meals

What is a Hobo meal? Well, it's a variety of veggies, hamburger, spices and butter wrapped up in tinfoil and either baked or grilled. Hobo meals are quick and simple to make. These are even great for camping! Hobo's are actually one of my favorite dishes to make because each packet can be customized. For example, if someone has a dietary restriction you can customize their packet to fit the requirements.  In our house we like a pretty simple Hobo packet. We typically stick with baby red ...

Quick Back to School Dinners

Kids everywhere are heading back to school! Parent's are rejoicing and crying at the same time. My darling daughter, Peyton, started kindergarten last week. It's an exciting but crazy time in our house. I have been spoiled with dropping my daughter off at daycare for the last 3 years. They fed her breakfast, lunch, snack and taught her new skills all while having a blast. Well, now I have to make breakfast, send a snack, plan out lunch AND get her to school on time looking fab. That's a big ...

I am always looking for ways to bring a fun, healthy, flavorful meal to the dinner table. Great American Spice Company does a fantastic job at carrying a wide selection of spices for any dish.  I spent a fair amount of time browsing the selection of spices and trying to settle on some I wanted to try out. It was a hard decision! There are so many to choose from. But I finally settled on The Great American Spice Co. Chicago Steak Seasoning, Angus Steak Seasoning, Prime Steak Seasoning and ...

Our Disappearing Act

Wow! It sure has been quiet these past few weeks at Peyton's Penny Pinching Momma! There used to be daily postings of reviews and funny life stories at least 3 times a week and then it went to pretty much nothing. I know this is how many of my readers have felt over the past month. And I am truly sorry to have left so abruptly. But the truth is I have been in way, way over my head these past few months with a remodel project.  At the end of May we started to remodel our current home to ...
